Injuries in the National Hockey League

Ice hockey is one of the more dangerous sports out there. Players have to wear more protective gear than any other sport and the rate of injuries is still high in comparison. There are three positions in ice hockey that will be compared: Forwards, Defence, and Goalie.

This visualization will explore how players in each position get injured, the number or injuries sustained, and relative severity (# of missed games) of those respective injuries. Some data points are aggregated by type of injury. For example, neck injuries aggregate neck, throat and collarbone injuries. The data below is an aggregation of data over the years 2009 - 2018 (encapsulating 9 years of injuries in total).
